Dry Skin Relief

Some causes of dry skin are:
Cold weather and low humidity

Does dry skin cause wrinkles? No, this is a myth.

Aging - Lower estrogen levels, thinning skin, and the fact that our skin can not produce oils are some of the reasons our skin is more liable to dryness as they age.

Central heating can make air dry which may cause dry skin.

Dry skin affects individuals who have skin type I or II more often.

In some cases dehydration, malnutrition, diabetes, eczema or low thyroid hormones may cause dry skin.

Apply moisturizer while skin is still damp to seal in moisture.

Treating dry skin:
When you shower use lukewarm water and don't take long showers or baths.

Use a humidifier at home.

Use mild soap and avoid perfumed soaps.

Don't wash your face often.

Avoid skin care products that contain alcohol.

Dry skin may cause flaky and rough skin. To get rid of the layer of dead skin use a delicate exfoliant containing alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid.

Use moisturizers which contain emollients. Emollients, such as urea and mineral oils, soften skin and provide a barrier to keep moisture in and harmful agents out. Your moisturizer ought to also have lipids (overweight or waxes) such as cholesterol, lecithin or glycerol.

Apply moisturizer often.

Wear sunscreen.
